A Story of Transformation Through Mentoring
At TWMAD, we believe that the right support at the right time can make all the difference. When Reece was referred to us, he was facing a challenging transition—moving from a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) back into mainstream education after being excluded due to an incident that led to his arrest. The weight of his past actions left Reece feeling lost, anxious, and convinced that his future opportunities had been permanently damaged. His self-worth had plummeted, and his mother was deeply concerned about his declining mental health.
Reece journey was not an easy one. Adjusting to a new school, making new friends, and rebuilding his confidence seemed overwhelming. Even stepping into the school environment triggered immense anxiety. His negative thoughts about his past overshadowed his ability to move forward, making each day a struggle.
How TWMAD Made a Difference
Through our mentoring programme, Reece was provided with a safe and supportive space to talk about his thoughts and feelings, helping him to process and come to terms with past events.
Our mentor worked closely with him, offering reassurance and guidance, allowing him to shift his mindset towards a more positive and hopeful future. By engaging in positive activities and meaningful conversations, Reece slowly began to rebuild his confidence and self-belief.
Reece’s mother has seen an incredible transformation. She has praised the strong rapport that Reece developed with his mentor and expressed how invaluable our support has been in helping him navigate this critical phase of his life.
With aligned support from his mother, TWMAD, and his school, Reece has settled into his new environment, made new friendships, and is now in a better place—both mentally and academically.
Looking Forward
Reece is now in Year 10, focusing on his GCSEs in a settled and supportive school environment. Having our mentoring intervention at this crucial stage has ensured that Reece has not missed out on his education. He now sees a future where he can succeed, rather than being defined by his past.
Together We can Make a Difference
Reece’s story is just one example of the impact that mentoring can have on young lives. There are many more young people out there facing similar challenges. If you’re a school, or professional working with a young person in need of support, get in touch with us today.
