TWMAD News When a young person feels abandoned

Category:

In this edition, we’re sharing the impactful journey of a young person who, through our mentoring, is learning to navigate and overcome deep feelings of neglect and abandonment.

Like all of us, she needs to feel loved and valued, but her journey has led her to express these needs in ways that have often been harmful to herself.

Our mentors are working closely with her, helping her find healthier ways to feel connected and valued.

Yasmin came to our program grappling with feelings of neglect and abandonment by her parents. These deep-seated feelings manifested in self-harm, truancy, negative friendships, and risky online behavior, including sharing indecent images on social media.

Our mentoring sessions focused on building trust, addressing her emotional needs, and providing guidance on online safety and healthy relationships.

Through consistent support, Yasmin gained a better understanding of her emotions and learned healthier ways to express herself.

Her mentor provided education on the risks of sharing personal information online, empowering her to make safer choices. Yasmin also began to speak out more openly about her feelings, breaking the cycle of internalising her struggles.

Today, Yasmin is making positive strides in managing her emotions, understanding the impact of her choices, and forming healthier relationships.

Her journey with us reflects the transformative potential of personalised support, equipping her with tools to build a safer and more confident future
